Breed Preservation
Safeguarding the Traditional Presa Canario
Preservation begins with an honest record. APCA's registry documents lineage, ownership, and breeding history so the traditional characteristics of the Presa Canario are not diluted or lost over time.

The Presa Canario is a capable, powerful working breed, and responsible ownership is central to APCA's mission. We ask owners to commit to proper training, containment, socialization, and lifelong care.
This is not a breed suited to casual ownership. APCA provides education and resources so owners understand what the breed requires before, during, and after acquisition.

APCA expects member breeders to prioritize health, temperament, and working ability over convenience or volume. Ethical breeding means transparent record-keeping and honest representation of every litter.

We support ongoing education for breeders and owners on the health considerations specific to the Presa Canario, and we expect member breeders to prioritize soundness alongside type.
